Adhesives have several advantages in joining ferrite halves over mechanical clips. Adhesives help reduce weights as well as help reduce rattle and hum in transformers.

If you are considering use of an adhesive for your ferrite applications, a number of select Halogen-free options used for environmentally sensitive manufacturing are available to you through Multimarket.

Bonding Ferrite Halves for Transformers:

One Part Epoxies - One component epoxy adhesives are used extensively in ferrite core bonding due to its ease of use, versatility, and fast cure times with heat. Many one component epoxy adhesives can cure in minutes with heat creating extremely high bond strength. It is very easy to control dispensing process using one component epoxies due to its availability in packaging as well as long work life. Glass spacer beads can also easily be added to one component epoxies to control gap space.

UV Cure Adhesives - UV cure adhesives offer a number of advantages for bonding ferrite cores. UV cure adhesives can offer very strong bonds and cure within seconds of exposure to UV light. Typically, ferrite cores must be assembled and the UV adhesive is applied to the joint of the ferrite core halves and cured within seconds. UV cure adhesives are available in easy to use disposable syringes (typically 10ml or 30ml) which are ideal for high speed dispensing systems.

Coil Encapsulation - Two part and one part, low viscosity epoxies are used extensively for coil impregnation and encapsulating copper coils. These materials need to be able to be vacuumed into the coil, so that they can take up all empty space in the transformer coil to reduce noise and protect the coil. These epoxies can be filled or unfilled but need to be low viscosity. Depending on the the transformer, high heat resistance may be needed which would call for a one component epoxy or a heat cure two-component epoxy.

What does Multimarket have to offer?

EPOXYBOND EB-350-4T is a toughened, one component epoxy system with a shelf life of 3 months at ambient temperatures (25°C). Shelf life can be extended by storing at lower temperatures (0-10°C). EB-350-3T is a thixotropic, non-sag epoxy ideal for screen printing applications. EB-350-4T is used highly in bonding ferrite cores for its high strength and ability to withstand solder reflow temperatures of up to 280°C (536°F). In semiconductor and PCB applications, EB-350-4T is excellent as a glob top encapsulant and dam material for dam-and-fill encapsulation.

Recommended Applications:

  • Semiconductor Die Attach
  • Microwaves
  • LCD Interconnect
  • Substrate Attach
  • Low Stress
  • Photonic Devices

What else does Multimarket have to offer?

Multimarket offers both urethane acrylate UV light cure adhesives, which offer excellent bond strength to many substrates including ferrite and hard to bond plastics such as ABS, PET, and polycarbonate. Our line includes cationic UV/LED cure epoxy adhesives which offer the benefits of traditional UV/LED cure products, as well as the chemical strength and high Tg standard epoxy systems offer. Epoxy UV cure adhesives do not succumb to oxygen inhibition and will not stay tacky once fully cured.
